New York at Universal Studios

New York is the best piece of pure backlot construction in the park: brownstones, a Delancey Street corner, Fifth Avenue storefronts, a library facade, and the forced perspective that makes a two-block set read as a city. It is worth walking slowly once, which almost nobody does because there is nothing here that posts a wait time on the street.

Behind it sits Revenge of the Mummy, an indoor launch coaster from 2004 that remains the single best ride at Universal Studios Florida and is routinely mistaken for a dark ride by people who have not been on it. It is 48 inches, it runs entirely in the dark, and it does something in the second half that this write-up will not spoil.

The Blues Brothers Show plays on the Delancey Street corner on a published schedule and is the last survivor of the park's original street-entertainment programme. It is fifteen minutes, it is free, and the band is genuinely good.

The parade runs through here, which is worth planning around rather than watching. When the route is set, New York becomes impassable and the crowd flow between the front of the park and Diagon Alley collapses. If you are not watching, be on the side of the park you want to be on before it starts.

New York tips

Revenge of the Mummy's single rider line is the most valuable one in the park. It regularly runs at a fifth of standby and the seat you get is no worse.
There are lockers before the Mummy queue and they are mandatory, not optional. Leave a bag with somebody outside if you can; the locker bank backs up worse than the ride does.
The Blues Brothers set times are listed under entertainment in the app rather than with the attractions, which is why most guests never see it.
Check the parade time on arrival and decide which half of the park you want to be trapped in. The route cuts the park in two for roughly forty minutes including staging.

An indoor launch coaster hidden behind a New York facade, with real fire, a backwards launch and the best second half of any ride in the park.

Revenge of the Mummy opened in 2004 and is the best attraction at Universal Studios Florida. It starts as a dark ride — slow, atmospheric, heavy on animatronics and set dressing — and then turns into a launched roller coaster in the dark, and the transition is staged so that first-time riders genuinely do not see it coming.

Tips for Revenge of the Mummy

The single rider line is the most valuable queue at this resort. It commonly runs at a fifth of standby and the seat you get is no different.
Ride it early in a trip rather than late. It sets a bar that most of the rest of the park does not clear, and knowing that shapes how you spend the day.
Lockers before the queue are mandatory and the bank is slower than the ride. Come without a bag if you possibly can.
Back row for the strongest launch, front row for the best view of the fire effects and the animatronic sequence. Both are worth doing.
This is the most frightening ride in the park. A child who clears 48 inches and rides outdoor coasters happily can still be badly shaken by this, because the fear here is darkness and startle rather than height and speed.

The Blues Brothers Show

Jake and Elwood arrive in the Bluesmobile on the Delancey Street corner in New York, play a set of soul and blues standards with a live band, and leave. It runs about fifteen minutes, several times a day, on a published schedule.

Set times are listed under entertainment in the app rather than with the attractions, which is why most guests never see this.
Stand on the shaded side of Delancey Street. The corner is in full sun for most of the afternoon and there is no seating anywhere.
The performers stay in character before and after the set and will talk to you on the sidewalk.
It is loud enough to hear from the Finnegan's outdoor tables, which is the comfortable way to catch it in July.

Universal Mega Movie Parade

The park's daytime parade, running a route through New York and Hollywood, and the thing most likely to wreck your walking plan.

The Mega Movie Parade launched in 2024 and runs a route through the backlot streets, taking in New York and Hollywood. It combines floats, walking performers and stilt work across a spread of Universal properties, and it runs about twenty-five minutes at any given viewing point.

Tips for Universal Mega Movie Parade

Check the parade time when you tap in and plan which side of the park to be on. Staging and clearing add roughly fifteen minutes to the published run time.
Ride during the parade if you are not watching. Waits at the front of the park drop noticeably for about half an hour.
Hollywood offers a better viewing angle than New York and fills later, because most guests claim a spot on the New York block by default.
Ask about accessible viewing areas well before the route is roped. They are not signposted and they fill early.
