What it is

Confisco Grille sits in Port of Entry a short walk inside the turnstiles, dressed as a customs house full of confiscated goods from every island in the park - there are props on the walls from Jurassic Park, Seuss Landing and Hogsmeade if you look. It is the least talked-about restaurant at Islands of Adventure and the most useful one.

The menu is deliberately scattered: pad thai, a Mediterranean plate with hummus and pita, flatbreads, burgers, ribs, salads. That looks unfocused on paper and works in practice, because it is the one place in the park that will feed a group where one person wants noodles, one wants a steak and one is vegan. The cooking is solid rather than exciting.

Its real advantage is availability. Mythos books out on busy dates and Confisco frequently does not, and it takes walk-ups more reliably than any other table service at Universal Orlando. When the park is hot, full and out of options, this is the room with a table in it.

Our verdict

Not the best food in the park and easily the most useful restaurant in it. Book Mythos if you can and keep Confisco as the plan that works when the day goes sideways.

What to order

The dishes this kitchen is actually known for. Menus change seasonally, so treat this as what to look for rather than a guaranteed list.

  • Pad Thai
  • Mediterranean hummus and pita platter
  • Flatbread of the day
  • Baby back ribs
  • Confisco burger

Tips for Confisco Grille

  • Book it, but do not panic if you did not - this is the walk-up restaurant at Islands of Adventure and it usually finds a table.
  • Ask for a table in the back room. The props on the walls back there are confiscated items from the other islands and they are worth ten minutes.
  • It sits by the entrance, which makes it the right choice for a late lunch on the way out rather than a mid-day stop that costs you a walk.
  • The Backwater Bar behind it serves the same food with no reservation at all if you are happy at a bar table.

Mediterranean Hummus Platter

Confisco Grille

$15.99

Hummus with warm pita, olives, feta and vegetables, served as a starter or a shared plate at Confisco Grille and the Backwater Bar.

Our take: The best vegan-friendly plate in the park outside Mythos, and large enough to be a light lunch for two. Order it at the Backwater Bar and skip the reservation entirely.

Confisco Grille: common questions

Can you walk up to Confisco Grille without a reservation?

More often than not, yes. It is the most walk-up-friendly table service at Universal Orlando and it is rarely booked solid the way Mythos is. Checking in at the desk and waiting twenty minutes is a normal outcome even on a busy day.

Is Confisco Grille better than Mythos?

No. Mythos has the better cooking and much the better room. Confisco has better availability, a broader menu for mixed groups, and a location by the entrance that makes it easier to fit into a day. Book Mythos first and treat Confisco as the reliable alternative.

Does Confisco Grille have vegetarian options?

Yes, and it is one of the stronger places in the park for it. The Mediterranean platter, the flatbreads and several of the noodle dishes are vegetarian, and the kitchen handles allergy requests routinely.
