What it is

The Blue Dragon covers a lot of ground — noodles, rice bowls, dumplings, curries and grilled dishes drawn from several Asian cuisines — and it does it more successfully than pan-regional restaurants usually manage. The room is dark, cool and dramatic, and it seats larger parties more comfortably than Atlantic does.

It is the more flexible of the two hub restaurants. Vegetarians and vegans have real options rather than a token dish, the price ceiling is lower, and a table with a nine-year-old at it does not feel out of place. For a family that wants one proper sit-down meal in the day, this is usually the right one.

The cooking is good rather than exceptional, which is the honest read. Nothing here will change your understanding of any of the cuisines represented, and everything arrives properly seasoned and properly hot, which inside a theme park is most of the battle.

Our verdict

Good, flexible, reliably cooked food in a cool dark room, and the right sit-down choice for most families. Atlantic is the better meal if you are two adults with a budget.

Tips for The Blue Dragon Pan-Asian Restaurant

  • This is the better hub restaurant for a group or a family. Atlantic is the better meal; The Blue Dragon is the easier table.
  • Book ahead on busy days. It takes walk-ups more readily than Atlantic but not reliably at peak dinner times.
  • The vegetarian and vegan options here are real dishes rather than substitutions, which makes it the most useful restaurant in the park for a mixed-diet party.
  • Order a couple of the small plates to share before the mains land. The kitchen is stronger on those than on the larger entrees.

Braised pork belly in folded steamed buns with pickles and a sweet-savory sauce, served as a small plate for the table.

Our take: The Blue Dragon is better at small plates than at entrees, and this is the proof. Order two of these before anyone commits to a main.

Near the top of the list Savory

A bowl of noodles in a long-cooked broth with pork, egg and greens, the most substantial thing on the menu.

Our take: Perfectly decent and priced like it is not. Fine if you want a hot bowl in air conditioning; it is not why you came to this restaurant.

Savory

$22

A coconut-based curry with vegetables and rice, built as its own dish rather than as a meat plate with the meat removed.

Our take: The best vegan meal at Epic Universe and not a close contest. If you eat plant-based, this restaurant is the reason to book a table in the hub.

The Blue Dragon Pan-Asian Restaurant: common questions

Is The Blue Dragon good for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes, and it is the strongest option in the park for both. The plant-based dishes are built as dishes rather than as substitutions, and the menu spans enough cuisines that a mixed-diet table works easily.

Do you need a reservation at The Blue Dragon?

Recommended rather than essential. It takes walk-ups more readily than Atlantic, but at peak dinner on a busy day you should have booked.

Which is better, Atlantic or The Blue Dragon?

Atlantic is the better food and the better room for two adults. The Blue Dragon is the better table for a family or a group, has a lower price ceiling, and handles dietary requirements far more comfortably.
