What it is

Café L'air De La Sirène is the counter-service operation in the Paris streets of the Ministry of Magic world, and it is the one quick-service location in the park where an adult can eat something they would order outside a theme park. Sandwiches on decent bread, pastries, coffee that is actually coffee, and a short list of hot dishes.

The setting does a lot for it. Eating at a café table on a Parisian street with the building fronts around you is a better lunch experience than any of the hub counters can offer, and it costs the same.

It is also the best breakfast in the park if you are in early. A pastry and a coffee here at nine in the morning, in a street that is briefly empty, is one of the quiet pleasures of a day at Epic Universe.

Our verdict

The best quick-service in the park for adults, and the only counter here that produces food you would order outside a theme park. Go for breakfast if you can.

Tips for Café L'air De La Sirène

  • This is the adult lunch in this park. If you eat one quick-service meal at Epic Universe and you are not feeding a child, eat it here.
  • Come early for breakfast. A coffee and a pastry at a street table before the crowd arrives is the best fifteen minutes in the Ministry of Magic.
  • Sit outside at a street table rather than inside. The whole point of this place is the Parisian frontage around you.
  • Mobile order at lunch. The counter queue backs up into the street between noon and two.

Frozen Butterbeer

Café L'air De La Sirène

$9.99

The frozen version of Butterbeer: a shaved-ice butterscotch cream soda under a thick foam topping, served in a cup you will finish faster than you expect.

Our take: The best of the three Butterbeers and the only one worth queuing for in Florida heat. If you drink one thing in this world, drink this.

Do not leave without it Drink Vegetarian Walkable

$8.99

The original cold Butterbeer — a butterscotch-and-shortbread cream soda with a foam head, poured from a tap rather than blended.

Our take: Sweeter than most people expect and worth having once. It is the same recipe as at the older Universal Orlando Wizarding Worlds, so skip it here if you have already had one this trip.

Hot Butterbeer

Café L'air De La Sirène

$8.99

The warm version, closer to a butterscotch steamer than to the soda, topped with the same foam.

Our take: Pleasant on the two January mornings a year when Orlando is cold, and a strange decision the rest of the time. Get the frozen one.

Baguette sandwich

Café L'air De La Sirène

$15.99

A filled baguette on properly made bread — ham and butter, or a cheese and salad version — assembled to order at the café counter.

Our take: The best cheap adult lunch at Epic Universe. Sixteen dollars for a sandwich you would actually order outside a theme park is a fair trade here.

Near the top of the list Savory Walkable

Butter croissant

Café L'air De La Sirène

$5.49

A laminated butter croissant from the café's pastry case, best in the first hour of the day before the case has been picked over.

Our take: Order it with a coffee at a street table before the crowd arrives and it is the nicest fifteen minutes in the park. By two in the afternoon it is just a pastry.

Near the top of the list Breakfast Vegetarian Walkable

A slice of savory egg tart served warm with a small side salad, the café's most substantial vegetarian option.

Our take: Solid and unexciting, and one of the few genuinely vegetarian hot meals in this half of the park. Worth knowing about rather than seeking out.

Savory Vegetarian

Pain au chocolat

Café L'air De La Sirène

$5.99

Laminated pastry wrapped around two batons of dark chocolate, sold from the café's pastry case alongside the croissants.

Our take: The best cheap sweet thing in the park and the right thing to buy for a child who will not wait for a dessert menu. Buy it in the morning, not the afternoon.
