What it is

Three Broomsticks is the main restaurant in the Wizarding World and the only place inside Universal Studios Hollywood where the room is the reason to eat there. It is a large timber-framed hall with exposed beams, a high sloping roof, long shared tables and enough dressing in the rafters to reward a look upward while you wait for food.

The menu is British pub food, straightforwardly executed: fish and chips, shepherd's pie, roast chicken, and a large shared platter intended for a family. It is competent rather than exciting, and the fish and chips is the item most consistently worth ordering.

It has the practical advantages that matter here — air conditioning, real indoor seating and a lot of it, and a connected pub next door. On a hot afternoon in a park short of both shade and chairs, that combination is worth choosing it for even if you are not especially hungry.

Our verdict

The food is fine and the room is the best in the park. Worth going to for the hall, the air conditioning and the seating, and the fish and chips is the order.

What to order

The dishes this kitchen is actually known for. Menus change seasonally, so treat this as what to look for rather than a guaranteed list.

Tips for Three Broomsticks

  • Mobile order and walk in. The counter queue at Three Broomsticks is one of the longest in the park at lunch, and the pickup window is far shorter.
  • Eat here at 11:15am or after 2:15pm. Between those hours the Wizarding World is the most congested ground in the park and this room is the reason.
  • The Great Feast platter is genuinely good value for four or more people, and poor value for two.
  • Sit in the main hall rather than the covered terrace if you can. The room is the point, and the terrace is just outdoor seating.
  • The Hog's Head pub is the same building. Order a drink there and bring it to your table rather than queuing twice.

Fish and Chips

Three Broomsticks

$18.99

Battered white fish with thick-cut chips, served on a metal tray in the timber dining hall. The most consistently well-executed plate on the Three Broomsticks menu.

Our take: The order at Three Broomsticks. The batter holds, the fish is not overcooked, and it is the one item here that would pass without the theming to carry it.

Near the top of the list Savory

Shepherd's Pie

Three Broomsticks

$18.49

Minced meat in gravy under a piped mashed potato crust, baked and served in its own dish with a side salad.

Our take: Solid, heavy and completely fine. It is the right order in January and a mistake in August, when you still have a hillside and four escalators ahead of you.

The Great Feast

Three Broomsticks

A shared platter of rotisserie chicken, ribs, corn and potatoes intended for a family, sold as a single order rather than per person. Priced per platter and worth confirming at the counter.

Our take: Genuine value for four or more and a poor deal for two. Order it with a group and individual plates without one.

Three Broomsticks: common questions

Do you need a reservation at Three Broomsticks?

No. It is a quick-service restaurant with counter ordering and mobile ordering through the app. There is no reservation system, and mobile ordering ahead is the way to avoid the worst of the lunchtime queue.

What should I order at Three Broomsticks?

The fish and chips is the most consistently good item. The Great Feast platter is good value for four or more and poor value for two. Butterbeer is available at the counter and at the Hog's Head next door.

Is the Great Feast worth it?

For a group of four or more, yes — it is one of the better per-person deals inside the park. For two people it is expensive and more food than you will finish. Order individual plates instead.

Are there vegetarian and gluten-free options?

Yes, there are vegetarian dishes on the standard menu and gluten-free preparations available on request. Ask at the counter before ordering rather than after, since it affects which items are possible.
