What it is

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit operated at Universal Studios Florida from 2009 until its permanent closure on August 18, 2025. It was an outdoor coaster with a vertical lift, a non-inverting loop and seat-selected music. It is no longer an option for a current visit.

Universal's official ride video now carries a closure disclaimer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muJHWtAM9Ns . Its Discover Universal retrospective also confirms permanent closure in summer 2025: https://blog.discoveruniversal.com/guest-stories/hollywood-rip-ride-rockit-10000/amp/ .

What riding it was like

Historically, riders selected a song from a seat keypad, ascended a vertical lift and travelled an outdoor coaster circuit. This description is retained for archival context.

The ride closed permanently in August 2025. Check the current Universal Orlando attraction list rather than planning to board it.

Is Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit scary?

The frightening part is the lift, not the layout. You are pulled straight up a vertical wall on your back at a slow, deliberate pace with nothing to look at but sky, and the drop over the top is the steepest first descent in Orlando. It runs entirely in daylight so there are no surprises after that, but the non-inverting loop and the sustained lateral forces are more aggressive than the ride's looks suggest. Anyone with a fear of heights should skip it rather than test themselves.

Full transfer from a wheelchair or ECV into a fixed ride seat with an over-the-shoulder harness. There is a test seat outside the entrance and it is the least forgiving restraint in the park for larger riders, so use it before you queue. All loose articles must go in a locker before boarding.
